The City of Arlington, Texas celebrates a historic milestone in 2026 – its 150th anniversary! Founded in 1876, Arlington has grown from a small rural farming community into the nation’s 50th largest city, home to more than 400,000 residents in the heart of the Metroplex. This sesquicentennial celebration will honor Arlington’s rich heritage, cultural diversity, and enduring spirit of innovation.

🎉 We have some exciting news! We will be unveiling a new, never-before-seen, SEVENTH Arlington 150 commemorative sticker in September at Downtown Arlington Texas's First Thursdays event! We've been highlighting a new sticker every month. Those are available for free at City Hall, your local library, or a recreation center. But this seventh sticker (which we are not unveiling until Sept. 3!!!) will only be available at this family-friendly event. Who's excited??? I'm excited!!! #Arlington150

👀 16 new public art pieces are being installed in Arlington in 2026, including this new mural along North Cooper Street to commemorate the City's 150th anniversary. The addition of these pieces will bring the number of official public art pieces in Arlington's collection to more than 35. 🔗 Learn more about these art pieces at the link in our bio. All of Arlington's art pieces are paid for through donations or the Hotel Occupancy Tax, which by Texas law, must be used to directly promote tourism, the convention and hotel industry, arts, and historic preservation. #Arlington150

Happy Birthday Arlington 🥳🎂 Exactly 150 years ago, on July 19, 1876, our city was founded and has transformed from a small stop along the Texas and Pacific Railway into the seventh largest city in Texas and the 50th largest in the nation. This week, residents joined us at Arlington City Hall for some birthday cake and to sign a birthday card. We are holding multiple events throughout the year as we celebrate Arlington's sesquicentennial. Residents, businesses, schools, faith communities and civic organizations are encouraged to join us in the upcoming celebrations commemorating the milestone. In 1973, Arlington, a city on the rise with about 90,000 residents, unveiled its first official flag. The idea came from two Bailey Junior High students, Amy Scott and Laura Lively, whose vision flew high beside Mayor Tom Vandergriff at the ceremony.
