Martin High School student Aaron Diaz served as Arlington’s honorary Mayor for a Day on Sept. 15, 2026.
Diaz spent the day learning how city government operates. His schedule included meeting Mayor Jim Ross, touring City Hall, participating in a mock City Council meeting and seeing firsthand how residents can help shape Arlington’s future.
Diaz was selected by Arlington ISD staff after demonstrating strong leadership in the Texas Rangers Baseball Foundation’s Leading Off Program last year.
As part of Arlington’s 150th anniversary celebration, eight students from Arlington and Mansfield Independent School Districts will be selected throughout the remainder of 2026 to participate in the Mayor for a Day experience. The program is designed to help students understand local civic engagement and the impact they can have on their community.
