Arlington Coffee Roasters Celebrates City Pride, Brews Community

Arlington Coffee Roasters sits at the corner of Division and East Street – one of a few recent arrivals in the Downtown Arlington area. Owner and Arlington native Michael Kemp took over the existing coffee shop and set out to transform the space into a community mainstay.

“Over time, the vision shifted from just serving coffee to creating something people feel connected to,” said Kemp.

“Not just a place you stop by — but a place that feels like part of your routine, part of your city. The long-term goal is simple: we don’t just want to be Arlington Coffee Roasters… we want to become Arlington’s coffee.”

Arlington Coffee Roasters created a special blend to commemorate the city’s 150th anniversary, based off their signature Arlington blend. Kemp explained that the blend reflects everything he’s learned along the way.

“After that many batches, you start to understand what people actually enjoy and what keeps them coming back,” Kemp said.

“We didn’t set out to make something flashy — we wanted something that just hits right every time. It’s smooth, balanced, and works with any home brewing method. Just a regular cup of coffee, elevated.”

When Kemp took over the space, he sought to create a welcoming environment – complete with murals, warm tones and thoughtful design. They also take pride in the consistent quality of their on-site roasted beans, explained Kemp.

“Why come visit? Because it feels good to be here. Whether you’re meeting someone, getting work done, watch a roast in action on the video feed of the roasting room, or just grabbing your usual drink, it’s a place you can settle into. And you know your coffee is going to be right every time,” he said.

Kemp has found community as an Arlington business-owner, even collaborating with neighbor Rodeo Goat to provide beans for their espresso martini.

“There’s a lot of pride here, and when people see you investing in the city, they respond to that. The community is here — you just have to show up for it first.”

The 150th anniversary blend is available for purchase at Arlington Coffee Roasters at 400 E. Division St. through the end of 2026. To learn more, visit arlingtoncoffeeroasters.com or visit them on Facebook or Instagram @arlingtoncoffeeroasters.
