State Reps. Chris Turner and Tony Tinderholt joined Arlington Mayor Jim Ross to present two proclamations celebrating the city’s 150th anniversary during the Arlington City Council’s evening meeting on June 23, 2026.
Turner and Tinderholt presented a proclamation from the Texas House of Representatives recognizing Arlington’s transformation since its founding along the Texas and Pacific Railway in 1876. The resolution highlights the city’s growth into a diverse community of nearly 400,000 residents and a major destination for education, innovation, entertainment, sports and tourism.
The House resolution notes that Arlington will officially mark its sesquicentennial on July 19, 2026, and extends sincere best wishes for continued success and prosperity to residents.
Mayor Jim Ross presented a separate city proclamation declaring 2026 as Arlington’s Sesquicentennial Year. The proclamation reflects on the city’s evolution from a modest rail stop to a nationally recognized community shaped by generations of residents, educators, entrepreneurs and civic leaders. It emphasizes Arlington’s enduring spirit of possibility and its commitment to honoring its past while embracing future growth.
Ross encouraged residents, businesses, schools, faith communities and civic organizations to take part in upcoming celebrations commemorating the milestone.
